Realizing that cupcake customers are the worst customers out there. I’ll rant in detail once they drive me to quit.

Friday the 13th
January 13, 2012 by special k
Now I’m not usually a superstitious person, but from the full moon to Friday the 13th, this week has been horrible to me. It’s as if everything that could go wrong, went wrong and nothing went right. And I’m pretty sure its not just me. A lot of people around me seem to have it just as bad. From poop accidents to car accidents, its been CrAzY! Think I’m just gonna stay in tonight, sleep off the week, and hope all this horrendous luck ends with the weekend.

DC
January 13, 2012 by special k

Sometimes I take living so close to dc for granted. It’s been a while since I’ve gone, but last weekend we headed into the city and visited the botanic gardens. Of course, its not the best season, but the inside was still pretty cool. I fell in love with all the orchids. Sooo pretty. These guys must be good at what they do. My mom can barely keep one alive for a season, and these guys manage to take care of so many varieties of orchids..and they’re so pretty!!
We also did a short trip to the air and space, which was much more interesting compared to when I went as a kid.
Anyways, I’d still like to go into the city and see a bunch of museums. They’re right there! And I haven’t even seen them all. Plus, they make for a nice cheap date so you can splurge on dinner. We went to capital grille for dinner and yeah its a chain but it was aweeesome! We started with the calamari which could’ve been our meal cuz it was so big. And a big plus cuz there were lots of tentacles. I had a kona crusted steak while the bf got the filet mignion. We shared sides of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. It all just melted in my mouth and I’m drooling just thinking about it… Worth every penny. Service and ambiance was just right.

Ice
January 8, 2012 by special k

We went to the ice show today at gaylord national because I had purchased a living social deal on a whim. I have to say, what they do is pretty awesome, but would I go again? Probably not. The theme was merry madagascar based on the dreamworks movie. Apparently 40 skilled ice carvers are flown over from China to show off their mad ice skills. It’s cool and all but I didn’t find it all that interesting. At the end, they have a nativity scene carved out of ice, which I thought was pretty religious move on the designers part, but w/e. It just wasn’t worth an hour drive.

Rays hell burger
December 13, 2011 by special k

What’s all the fuss about?! Went there cuz a friend claimed it would bring new meaning to the word “burger”, and yes it did. The wait wasn’t awful when we got there, but it picked up fast and seats were difficult to get. I was unamused by how rude people were in this small cramped area. No, this time it wasn’t the service, it was the Arlington customers! Rude much? I think so.
My friend loved his whatever marrow burger. I stuck with the simple little devil cheeseburger cuz that just seemed like the thing to try. If you can’t get a basic cheeseburger right, then you just fail. The meat was pretty good cuz it was nice, juicy and thick. My friend kept claiming that they take leftover meat from rays the steaks. Unfortunately that just doesn’t sound all that appetizing to me, so I don’t see how that’s something to brag about. But anyway, they failed in the condiment department because I had to get my own mayo. What? Even five guys will put it on for me so that I can bite into my juicy hot burger instead of pushing through a crowd while my burger gets cold. Yeesh. And a good toasted bun is KEY in my burgers. They’re bun tasted like it was taken right out of a bag! Disappointing! Their fries were nothing special and their sweet potato fries were mediocre to say the least. I enjoyed my thick chocolate milkshake, but it was a bit on the sweet side. Overall, its definitely not something I’d push and shove my way to get to, but yes, their burgers do contain a good meat.Category Uncategorized | Tags: | 3 Comments

Black Friday
December 3, 2011 by special k
This year was probably the best one yet. I didn’t go for any electronics, which probably explained how easy it was. We started at the outlets at 9. It was awesome! A few stores opened at 9, then more stores opened every hour until midnight when all of them opened. All the stores I wanted to go to were open by the time I got to them so it worked out perfectly. I got great deals on great things and got most of my Xmas shopping done. The stores and lines weren’t as crowded until much later. It was really nice going into stores where all the clothes are still neat and not tossed around. By the time I left at 1:00, the parking lot was packed full of crazy people. Thank gawd I missed that crowd. We made our way back towards Frederick Walmart which looked like a hurricane hit it. I was able to snag a cheap vacuum and toys for kiddies. I unfortunately was too pooped to go on any further. This 7am job really affects my sleep schedule and I’m no longer able to stay up much past 11pm, let alone 3am.
So yes, I wimped out early this year and was I’m bed by 4am, but overall I was still able to get amazing deals without top much push and shove. I think this might be my game plan next year as well if I’m not fighting for an electronic(which I’m thinking I might prefer to do over amazon or cyber Monday anyway).Category Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments

Rays the Steaks
November 21, 2011 by special k
Unfortunately unimpressed.
Now don’t get me wrong, the steak was wonderful. They really do know how to do their meat, but I found the service and ambiance to be very mediocre. The restaurant was loud and awkwardly set up. I felt like I had to maneuver though a maze to find the bathroom. and when I finally awkwardly made it through tight tables to the bathroom, i was kinda grossed out by the massive overflow of trash coming out of all the trash cans. Ew.
Our server came out and immediately started talking about the meat as if we had never been there before, which my brother had, and its not like my rents understood anyway. Spent, I swear a good 5mins talking about it… It got difficult looking interested. and then he asks if we’ve ever been there before… Okay, chew my ear off about your restaurant, and then ask me if I’ve heard your schpeel. He came off as a bit cold and cocky. Didn’t like it. I felt like the lady who refilled my water was friendlier. And I think he was a little deaf cuz I called after him pretty loudly, but he never heard. That could just have to do with how loud the restaurant is.
And I know its steaks and all, but my mom hated her salmon. Flavorless and tough is how she described it. Also, I’m not sure if its a common thing, but there were little things in my wine…maybe the pieces of the cork at the bottom? Bleh. So they have wonderful steak and sides, but most of everything else was meh for me. I think id rather go to the butcher and cook it at home myself…. Or fly to cali for some ad hoc and house of prime rib. Mmmmm.
Oh, and I also got some friendly reminders as to why I don’t eat at nice restaurants with my dad:
1. He doesn’t wear clothes outside of his company polos.
2. He tries to wear the napkin like a bib.
3. Before getting yelled at by his children, he attempted to pull out a q-tip and clean his ears after dessert, complaining that ee rushed him after the shower.Category Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments

Quake
August 23, 2011 by special k

I experienced my first earthquake today. I never woke up to the small one last year, but this one had me freaking out. At first, I thought it had to do with the construction outside, maybe they ran into the building by accident. I was still trying to decide between shoving the kids under the tables or running outside to avoid getting hit by a bulldozer. Eventually, I screamed for everyone to get under the table, which probably wasn’t helpful. I let my fear get the best of me and ended up scaring some kids. That whole stay calm and collected in an emergency so you don’t frighten the kids thing just doesn’t work for me. If I had been at home, I probably would’ve been fine, but having 40 mini lives flash before my eyes, put me into panic mode. I had heartburn all afternoon and I still have some thinking about it. Yeesh. We do fire drills and emergency weather drills every year, but you never think its ever gonna happen. Guess anything can happen in good ol Md. Luckily, the only casualty was a fallen mini plant garden the preschoolers made. Meh, who needs herbology anyway?
